A Closer Look at New York Fashion Week’s Production Team
By Mackenzie Moffitt
While it may seem to those of us who don’t live in the Big Apple that the New York Fashion Week (NYFW) takes place every week, the reality is that it actually starts today. This is to showcase the fall/winter 2016 fashion lines of many renowned designers, as they launch the trends that the rest of us will adopt in a month (or two, or three…or five, when they clearance it out in January). Amidst the glitz and glamour of the runway, what we don’t see is the creative planning, the meticulous preparation, and the people keeping the shows moving.
LDJ Productions, a Soho event management, and production team, is comprised of the masterminds behind NYFW. To give an idea of the scale of NYFW, LDJ will produce 65 individual fashion shows between September 8th and 15th. What’s more, is that all of these shows will be split up between two separate venues, adding to the beautiful chaos that is NYFW.
They begin the fashion week process months in advance by scouting venues and pairing up production designers with fashion designers to determine the vibe of the show and how they envision it to look on stage. The designs are born on paper and from there, they come to life during the set-up, and the art of it is born as the lights come up, the music on and as the models strut down the runway.
If you don’t have the time or money to buy a last minute ticket to New York for the fall fashion show, be sure to check out some of the local fashion in the Corridor area. There are a number of fashion line startups and shows in both Iowa City and Cedar Rapids and they can be found everywhere from the vendors at the Downtown Farmer’s Markets to the Ped Mall in Iowa City.

While a trip to NYC may not be in the works for you, you’ll be able to get an insider look through Snapchat for many of the fashion lines being debuted at NYFW. In the meantime, check out some of the local clothing lines and independent shops in the Cedar Rapids/Iowa City area! Conversely, if you are interested in putting on a fashion show in the Corridor, call Rausch Productions to do your staging and lighting. Our event management team is top notch and will ensure that your vision becomes a reality.
